Chelsea Joy Handler, born February 25, 1975 at Livingston New Jersey, is the youngest of six children. She was the eldest child within the family. The father of Handler, who was an auto dealer is also her maternal grandmother. Her mother emigrated from Germany to the United States as a young woman in the year 1958. In 1989, she had a diagnosis of cancer. She was able to die after fighting the disease for 10 years. Handler's dad was Jewish and she was brought to Reform Judaism. Handler was blessed with a joyful and healthy life living in a posh area. At the age of 19 She relocated from the city of Los Angeles, California to pursue her career in acting. In order to support her family, Handler began to work as an actor. But, at aged 21, Handler decided to pursue the stand-up comic profession full time because she realized her story telling talents. Handler started her stand-up career on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Poorly which was a reality program with an in-camera hidden camera and a practical joke. It aired between 2002 and 2005. Handler was then featured on other TV shows such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler appeared on The Tonight Show for a while as a correspondent. Handler gained notoriety in 2006 when she hosted her E! show. Chelsea Handler's show. It lasted two seasons.
